Navigate the Family Court Workshop

From Community Perspective ..

This workshop is designed for individuals involved in Family Court proceedings, whether they’re represented by a lawyer or considering self-representation. It provides essential insights into navigating the court system effectively, empowering participants with knowledge about key court processes, legal options, and family law topics. The workshop is ideal for parents dealing with family disputes, offering practical strategies to instruct lawyers efficiently and reduce litigation costs and delays.

Brief Topics Covered:

– Overview of Family Court processes
– Your wellbeing and your children during the process
– Care of Children Act: Parenting disputes and guardianship
– Family Violence: Protection orders and safety concerns
– Overview of Property (Relationships): Division of assets
– Legal options: Self-representation, legal aid, and private lawyers
– Court costs, Parental conflict impact, and co-parenting challenges
– Preparing affidavits, court documents, and understanding court events

This workshop is aimed for whānau who have legal representation or anyone who wishes to gain more knowledge and insight into the Family Court processes including the following topics:

The information provided in this workshop is NOT a Legal advice and may not necessarily apply to your particular case or family circumstances. The last 30 minutes will involve a Q&A session and group discussions. 

The workshop is presented by Mel Round who is a Community Coach and Mediator with lived experience and alot of passion to help communities and families going through Family Separation. 

Event Venue: The workshop will be held at Victory Community Centre 2 Totara Street, Nelson South, Nelson 7010.  Please enter through the main entrance and follow signs to the event space.

Arrival Time: Doors open at 5:45 PM for registration. Please arrive early to check in and find your seat before the workshop begins promptly at 6:00 PM.

Parking: Free parking is available at the venue (unless it is advised not available). 

Refreshments: Light refreshments (tea, coffee, and snacks) will be available during a short break halfway through the workshop.

Koha (Donation): This is a free event, but donations (Koha) are welcome to help support our community initiatives. Cash and electronic donations (via bank transfer) will be accepted.

What to bring:
Participants are welcome to bring a notebook and pen for additional notes if preferred and water bottle. 

Breaks: There will be one 10-minute break halfway through the workshop.

Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible. If you require any special accommodations, such as seating arrangements or hearing assistance, please contact us beforehand.
